Fresh Kills landfill, New York

The Fresh Kills landfill was man made structure in 1947, the garbage dump on Staten Island grew so large over the second half of the 21st century that it became the largest man-made structure in the world, rising eighty two feet higher than the Statue of Liberty.

The Fresh Kills landfill was the only landfill in New York to accept New York City's residential waste as such the waste piled up. Measuring at one point at 225 feet high. In fact, the waste piled up so high that the Fresh Kills landfill has been called one of the largest man-made structures on earth.
